Newspaper Paintings
2018 (ongoing)
Synthetic polymer paint on newspaper (framed)

The series started as I was exploring found images in a bid to ween myself off making too many images as a photorgrapher. This came with the realisation that there are already so many images created everyday and I should try my best not to add to them. With that, I began being more critical of the images that exist around my periphery and decided that they needed to be scrutinised more carefully. In working with the newspaper I also found it to be an extremely chaotic space, with contradictory images on neighbouring pages, all of them screaming for our attention. Painting therefore becomes a gesture of organising and cleaning up, for me to look at things clearer.

Presented at DECK as part of It’s strange I feel like I’ve seen this one before (2019).
