Understudy (swifts)
2014
laser print on 300 gsm postcard

Understudy (swifts) is a postcard series consisting of 150 photographs I took of swifts flying in the sky. Swifts are incredibly shy birds and would often fly really high up to evade human activity. As I was tracing flocks of swifts I would often be taken to areas in Singapore that are less urbanised. I was also always curious about what they were doing as they would fly around in circles in large flocks almost leisurely. I liked that just like doing art, their movement didn’t seem to be borne out of pragmatism; more like a dance.
